Sex Abuse Lawsuits

The lawyers of Levy Konigsberg are filing lawsuits against organizations that employ and protect sexual predators. If you have been victimized by any of the following groups, please reach out to us to discuss your case:

The Catholic Church

Allegations of sexual abuse perpetrated by members of the Catholic clergy go back to at last the 1950s. Unfortunately, there is no way to determine exactly how many people were sexually abused by the clergy in the United States over the past few decades, a 2004 study conducted by John Jay College indicated that there were at least 10,667 victims of reported abuse between 1950 and 2002. Forty-four percent of the priests involved faced format allegations, which means that almost half of the clergy that engaged in abuse was able to offend multiple times while the Catholic Church looked the other day. In some cases, Church leaders allowed the abuse to continue by looking the other way, engaging in cover-ups, or reassigning problem priests to other parishes where they could continue to abuse unsuspecting children.

Boy Scouts of America

Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States is a household name. It has also has been the target of allegations of sexual abuse since shortly after its inception in 1910. The BSA started keeping track of predatory scout leaders and identified thousands that engaged in abuse and misconduct over the decades. Rather than reporting instances of abuse to boys’ parents or the authorities, the BSA decided it would be better to sweep the problem under the rug and protect its reputation. Problem scout leaders were given the option to leave rather than face sanctions and some even were allowed to rejoin the organization at a later date. In this way, the BSA chose its own reputation and the reputation of abusive scout leaders over the welfare and safety of its young members.

Hospitals, Universities, and Medical Programs

The University of Southern California, Michigan State University, Rockefeller University, and other well-known and lesser-known institutions have protected doctors that have sexually abused patients under the guise of providing legitimate medical care. While has a gynecologist at USC, a position he held for nearly 30 years, George Tyndall permed abusive examinations on thousands of women. Larry Nassar abused more than 150 young women during his tenure as a sports doctor at Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics from 1992 to 2016. Between the 1940s and 1980s, Dr. Reginald Archibald may have abused as many as 9,000 children while he was working as a pediatric specialist at Rockefeller University Hospital. Larry Nassar abused more than 150 young women during his tenure as a sports doctor at Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics from 1992 to 2016. While has a gynecologist at USC, a position he held for nearly 30 years, George Tyndall permed abusive examinations on thousands of women. In each of these cases, the institutions for whom these abusers worked failed to take necessary action to keep their patients safe.

Schools and Youth Programs

Statistics indicate that most childhood victims of sexual abuse are abused by someone with whom they are already acquainted. In many cases, abusers are coaches, teachers, youth group leaders, babysitters, or other trusted adults. The reality is that many sexual abusers seek out employment at youth programs, as that setting provides them with access to children whom they can groom. While it's extremely unfortunate, the reality is that many adults with a record of misconduct with children are able to continue victimizing others simply by finding another job. In many instances, the easiest way for an organization to deal with a problem employee is to help the employee find a new job. This practice is known as "passing the trash" and allows schools and other organizations to protect their reputations at the expense of innocent children.
